It is an honour to have been given the opportunity to be the new head of school here at Royal Docks Academy.
I have been a member of staff at the school since it opened in 1999. Prior to that, I was a head of year at Woodside School here in Newham; the school which then become the Royal Docks Community School. My other teaching experience as head of RE and head of PE was in schools outside of London.
I am looking forward to using these experiences and the relationships I have developed with the local community to build upon the recent successes of the school as we continue our journey towards offering an outstanding education to all of our students.
It is also an exciting time as we join the Burnt Mill Academy Trust (BMAT). The Trust is based in Essex, with schools rated Outstanding by Ofsted. The partnership will benefit and support us as we also head towards becoming an outstanding school.
I look forward to working with you as your new head of school.
Head of School
I am delighted to have been appointed as the executive headteacher at the Royal Docks Academy, as of January 2018.
It has been a pleasure to have worked here for the past term with the senior leadership team and I look forward to working with the head of school to build upon the work of the last few years.
I have worked within the Burnt Mill Academy Trust (BMAT) since 2010, first as deputy headteacher and then headteacher at Burnt Mill Academy in Harlow.
It now feels as though I am coming home to Newham as I started my teaching career in Brampton Manor 20 years ago before working as assistant head at St Bonaventure’s, so I am very familiar with the borough. I have worked with a number of schools throughout London and Essex in my career.
I have very high aspirations for your sons and daughters; I expect every child to leave us having made excellent progress regardless of their starting point; I want them to develop as well-rounded individuals; I want all of them to have the opportunity to go to any university in the world or embark on apprenticeships which will lead them on to the exciting careers they deserve. I want our students to leave us fully prepared to take their place and be able to compete on the world stage. To achieve this, we need to make sure they have the best teachers in front of them. This work begins the minute they walk through the door. Your children get one chance here and that is a responsibility I take very seriously.
As you know, the school has now joined BMAT. The Trust has very high expectations of behaviour and our unofficial motto ‘hard work pays’ is one I am sure you will appreciate.
The Trust has an excellent track record of outstanding GCSE results and it has been my pleasure to have played a part in that success.
I look forward to working with you, the team and, of course, the students to build on the successes already made.
I also look forward to meeting with you throughout the remainder of this academic year and working with your sons and daughters and our team to make sure we offer the world class education our students deserve.
I know that it is through excellent education that your sons and daughters will be able to achieve their full potential.
